Offboarding Avalara (Internal)

Last updated: December 31, 2024

Before you start with us

Before you start working with Numeral, there are a few things to take care of at Avalara. As you might know, you have to provide notice of non renewal/cancellation at least 90 days in advance. You can do this by submitting a form that is to be reviewed by the Avalara team.

While that review takes place, please take note of the following details:

  • What will be the last filing that Avalara will take care of for you (date)?

  • What states did Avalara handle for you?

  • Will you keep some states with Avalara (usually SST)?

  • Will you 100% offboard Avalara?

Getting started with Numeral

Share your credentials with us

  1. Log in to your Numeral Dashboard

  2. Go to “Nexus”

  3. Select the state where you’ll be filing sales tax

  4. Select the option that best fits your needs “Already filing?” or “Register”

  5. Complete the checkout flow by filling in the boxes with your credentials

* If all credentials are correct, we will contact you to set up 2 factor authentication, where necessary. If they are incorrect, we will need your help to troubleshoot them with the respective states.

Shopify Tax Settings

If you are 100% offboarding from Avalara, you need to make sure you have turned off the Avalara tax engine in Shopify (Avatax), so that Shopify’s tax engine can take over.

Here is the step by step of how to do this:

  1. Log into your Shopify Store;

  2. Hit ‘Settings’ on the bottom left hand-side of the page

  3. Head over to Taxes and Duties

  4. Search for ‘United States’

  5. Scroll down until you find the Avatax Icon - hit the red ‘Deactivate’ button there.

  6. Once this is done, the store owner has to email or call Shopify support in order to fully disconnect Avatax from the backend. This is crucial - simply deactivating it by clicking the Deactivate button will not fully remove it from your store.
