Shopify Connection - Numeral Dashboard
Last updated: January 24, 2025
Purpose of this article: To help you properly connect (and potentially reconnect) all necessary stores to the Numeral Dashboard. This is a vital step in calculating Nexus thresholds and filing your sales tax!
Before you start:
*Connected your store in the past and need to reconnect? Start from Step 5!*
Your store might have disconnected because:
Credentials in Shopify were reset, breaking all previously authorized connections;
Someone on your team might have updated your Shopify store credentials. If this is the case, the original connection will have been broken and you will have to go through the flow below to reconnect your store to the Numeral dashboard. Please check internally with your team, and for any recent password reset emails sent by Shopify to confirm if this applies.
Shopify bill is outstanding, and Shopify cut off API access.
Please check for any outstanding billing messages from Shopify in your administrator email address and in the Shopify notifications icon (on the top right hand-side of your store.) If you have outstanding bills with Shopify, they might cut off any API connections you have previously established until you get up to date with your obligations with them.
Troubleshooting Issues
**Encountering problems in completing the connection for the first time? Check out the most commonly encountered issues**:
Lack of administrator access in the Shopify Store (unable to grant necessary permissions);
Administrator access - head over to Settings > Users, and check if you have administrator access to the store. If you do not, the connection with the Numeral dashboard will not work. Please make sure to reach out to your store's administrator so that they can proceed with the connection.
Specifically, if you are not the store owner, please make sure you have the following permissions in the Shopify store: manage/create/delete apps and add-ons. If you do not, please request these permissions from the store owner before proceeding with the store connection.
The store is password protected, meaning the connection is unable to proceed;
If your store is password protected, please remove the password so that the store connection can proceed. Please follow these steps to remove a potential password on your store: In your Shopify Homepage, click: Online Store > Themes. There is a banner displayed that says, "Your online store is password protected." Click Remove password. If the banner isn't displayed, then your online store isn't password protected.
Alternatively, you can follow this method: From your Shopify Homepage, go to Online Store > Preferences > Password Protection > uncheck 'Restrict access to visitor with the password' option > Save

With the common issues addressed, let's get to it!
Step 1: Log in to your Numeral Dashboard
Step 2: Head over to 'Connections' in the left hand-side menu
Step 3: Click on "Shopify" where it says “Add a new Store”
Step 4: Add your Shopify store name in the text area, and then click on “Add Store”.
You have now added your store. You have not yet connected your store so we can’t yet
sync orders. To connect your store, you’ll need to complete the next 4 steps. We’ve partnered with a company called Fivetran to help streamline the order syncing process.
Step 5: Click on "Connect Fivetran" to authorize Numeral to integrate with your Shopify order data:
Step 6: On the next screen, click on "Continue". This screen has helpful information about your information security, and your privacy:
Step 7: Your store name will appear prefilled in the input on the next screen. Click on “Authorize”:
Step 8: If you are already logged into your Shopify store in another browser tab, you will be taken back to the same screen as before. If you are not logged in, when prompted, enter your Shopify credentials to log in. Once you’ve done so, click on the button that says “Save & Test”.
**This button is at the very bottom of the screen and is hard to see!**
Step 9: Once you do this, you will be redirected back to your Numeral dashboard where you will see your store (and its status). If you have done everything correctly, you will see a green row and it will say “Syncing”
IMPORTANT
If something has gone wrong, or if you were not authorized to connect your store, you will see a red background that looks like this:

resolve this issue.
Reconnecting/Fixing a Broken Connection
Occasionally we will need to restore your connection if the Numeral system disconnects from Shopify. To do this you can start from Step 5 in the instructions above, and the only difference will be the title on the button. It will say “Re-Authorize Connection”, instead of “Authorize”
